The t o t a l mass of a l l round and square s t e e l bars w i l l be scheduled as bars of nominal s i z e 1 5 mm (diameter or s i d e , as relevant) for the purpose of obtaining a b a s i c c o n t r a c t p r i c e , and the bars of a l l s i z e s actually used w i l l be subject to the terms of the conditions of c o n t r a c t covering valuation of v a r i a t i o n s . The q u a n t i t i e s (or percentayes) of a l l other s i z e s of s t e e l bars t h a t may be required w i l l be scheduled as provisional q u a n t i t i e s , the contract p r i c e s for which w i l l be fixed regardless of t h e magnitude of variations ( i f any) of q u a n t i t i e s . Welded mesh w i l l be scheduled separately for each type and mass per square metre of mesh. a) The u n i t r a t e s f o r s t e e l bars of nominal s i z e 25 mm s h a l l cover the cost of the supply, c u t t i n g , bending, placing i n position, and fixiny of the reinforcing and supporting s t e e l scheduled, and the provision of a l l spacer devices and bindiny wire, as well as t h e c o s t of t e s t s i n terms of SABS 920. b) The extra-over r a t e s f o r b a r s of a l l nominal s i z e s other than 25 mm s h a l l cover any d i f f e r e n c e s in cost a r i s i n g from any or a l l of t h e o p e r a t i o n s s e t out i n (a) above i n respect of bars of such other sizes. c) The u n i t r a t e for welded mesh s h a l l cover the supply, c u t t i n g , and placing of mesh, and the cost of a l l waste due to laps. Concrete a ) Concrete will be measured net to the dimensions shown on the drawings or t o the dimensions c a s t , whichever a r e t h e smaller. S t r u c t u r a l elements t h a t are undersized w i l l be measured for payment only i f they are accepted by the Engineer. b) No allowance w i l l be made for concrete required to make up overbreak i n s o f t excavation, b u t payment w i l l be made for addit.iona1 concrete or formwork, or both, ordered i n writing by the Engineer to replace unsuitable material or overbreak i n hard rock or i n intermediate excavation ( s e e ( d ) below). c) Subfoundation carpets and blinding l a y e r s w i l l be measured t o the plan s i z e of t h e coiicrete s t r u c t u r e resting on the carpet. thickness as c a s t provided t h a t the Enyineer is s a t i s f i e d t h a t ':he excavation has not a t any point been taken deeper or wider than necessary (see (b) above). d) Where, in terms of (b) above, concrete is ordered to be placed d i r e c t l y against t h e sides or bottoms of excavations i n hard rock or i n intermediate excavation, an i.tem may be included i n the schedule of q u a n t i t i e s for any a d d i t i o n a l concrete placed i n overbreak. Such a d d i t i o n a l concrete w i l l be measured on the basis of the s u p e r f i c i a l area of t h e s i d e s or bottom, or both, as applicable, of the t h e o r e t i c a l net excavation i n rock t h a t is overbroken and i n contact with the concrete. Separate items w i l l be scheduled, as applicable, f o r each grade of concrete, and for each unit of the Works or each element of t h e s t r u c t u r e , and for each type of cement. Except as provided for i n 8.1.4, separate items w i l l a l s o be scheduled f o r d i f f e r e n t conditions (of placing c o n c r e t e , for small q u a n t i t i e s (each l e s s than 0,5 m3 of formed c o n c r e t e ) , and f o r d i f f e r e n t surface f i n i s h e s (other than s t r i k i n g - o f f and levelling) such as wood-floated or s t e e l - f l o a t e d f i n i s h e s , .and g r a n o l i t h i c or mortar screeds. a) The u u i t r a t e s s h a l l cover the cost of the design of the mix i n the case of s t r e n g t h concrete, the provision of concrete (made with ordinary portland kement unless otherwise scheduled), mixing, t e s t i n g , placing, compacting, the forming of stop-ends and unforeseen construction j o i n t s , s t r i k i n g - o f f or levelling as applicable, and curing and repairing where necessary. b ) Floor slabs, whether placed on subfoundation c a r p e t s or d i r e c t l y on t h e prepared yround surface, w i l l be measured to the n e t t h i c k n e s s dimensioned on the drawings. c) Concrete in a column supporting a reinforced concrete beam or s l a b s t r u c t u r e w i l l be measured between t h e t o p surface of the foundation, beam, or s l a b on which the foot of the column is standing and the underside of the beam or s l a b supported by the column. d) No deduction or addition w i l l be made for nosings, bolt-holes, chamfers or splays of size up t o 50 mm x 50 mm, grooves or chases n o t exceeding 0,015 m3 each i i i volume, or holding-down b o l t s , r a i l s , s t e e l sections, and reinforcement c a s t i n the concrete. Where the concrete is scheduled by voluine, it w i l l be measured on the mean Concrete Complete with Formwork separate items may be scheduled for concrete complete with formwork Cor each prescribed mix or f o r s t r u c t u r a l u n i t s of s i m i l a r s i z e and shape, or for both. The unit r a t e s s h a l l cover the cost of the provisiori of concrete (made with ordinary portland cement unless otherwise scheduled), mixing, t e s t i n g , placing, compacting, the forming of stop-ends and unforeseen construction j o i n t s , s t r i k i n g - o f f or levelling as applicable, and curing and repairing where necessary, together with the cost of a l l p a r t s of formwork i n contact with the concrete aid the necessary bearers, s t r u t s , and other supports, p l u s t h e layout and plant necessary to e r e c t and s t r i k e such forinwork.
