the necessary depth of compactton.
Where a d d i l l o n e 1 m a t e r l a l has to he imported to obtain the required l e v e l s and l a y e r t h i c k n e s s e s , the

it) the depth below formation level of. d r i l l i n g and b l a s t i n g s h a l l he at least 700 mm at the c e n t r e of
the road-bed and at least 1 000 mm at the edges oE the road-bed.

On superelevated s e c t i o n s the treatment s h a l l , i E so d i r e c t e d or shown on the drawings, have a uniform

2) After ripping or b l a s t l n g the materlal s h a l l be processed as follows:
I) Where the Engineer i n s t r u c t s t h e Contractor to rip the in-sttu material the whole of the material

two-thirds oE the thickness of the l a y e r , a f t e r compactton.
Unless otherwise approved, the material s h a l l then be compacted as speciEied in 5 . 2 . 4 . 2 .

oplnion of the Engineer, ripped material cannot he compacted a s s p e c i f i e d in 5 . 2 . 4 . 2 , the whole oE the
material s h a l l be processcd and compacLed as s p e c i f i e d in 5 . 2 . 4 . 2 ( d ) except t h a t no Eine material s h a l l
be added.
Surplus maLerial a r l s i n g Erom bulking after treatment in place by the processes speciCied in (i) and
