a l l o t h e r material t h a t may i n t e r f e r e with t h e c o n s t r u c t i o n of other wurks;
h) the disposal of a l l material r e s u l t i n g frum the cleari.ng;
c ) the removal and disposal of s t r u c t u r e s t h a t encruach upon or nay otherwise o b s t r u c t o t h e r work on
the S i t e and t h a t can he cleared by meaus of a b u l l d o z e r of mass approximately 20 1: and flywheel power
approximately 130 kW ( s t r u c t u r e s t h a t cannot he so cleared shall. he broken down -in accordance with the
requirements of 5.8 o r the requirements f o r the removal and dispr)siil of structures given i.n the pro:ject
s pe c i E ica t ion) ;
d) the removal of a l l rocks and boulders of s i z e up t o 0,15 m3 that are lying on the s u r f a c e to he
cleared o r exposed during the c l e a r i n g o p e r a t i o n s ;
e ) where fences have t o he taken down, t h e s o r t i n g , c o i l i n g , and stacking of the matrri.al.; and
f ) tlie removal and stacking of o t h e r re-usable materials as scheduled.
The moving of a c e r t a i n amount of s o i l o r gravel may he inherent in o r unavoidable during the process
of c l e a r i n g .
GRUBBING. A l l stumps and r o o t s l a r g e r than 75 mm i n diameter s h a l l he removed t o a depth of at least
600 mm helow the finished l e v e l and a t l e a s t 100 mm below origi-nal ground l e v e l . Where a road bed o r
other area has t o he compacted, a l l stumps and roots including matted roots s h a l l he removed t o a depth
of at ].east 200 mm helow the c l e a r e d s u r f a c e .
Except in borrow areas, c a v i t i e s r e s u l t i n g from grubbing s h a l l he h a c k f i l l e d with approved material and
c.ompacted t o a density at least equal t o t h a t of the surrounding ground.
RECLEARING OF VEGETATION. If during t h e contract period v e g e t a t i o n should again grow on any p o r t i o n of
the S i t e , horrow a r e a s , or o t h e r areas t h a t have been cleared i n accordance with t h e s p e c i f i c a t i o n , t h e
Engineer may, i f he considers it necessary, order t h a t such a r e a ( s ) he r e c l e s r e d .
Such rec1,earing s h a l l include the removal and d i s p o s a l of g r a s s , shrubs, and other v e g e t a t i o n , as in
the f i r s t c l e a r i n g operation.
CONSERVKTION OF TOPSOIL. Where conservat ion of t o p s o i l is r e q u i r e d , t h e r e l e v a n t terms of Subclause
5.2.1.7 of SARS 1200 D or 5.2.2 of SAHS 1200 DA, as a p p l i c a b l e , s h a l l apply.

and ensure the s a f e t y of s t r u c t u r t ' s adjacent t o those t o he demclished.

nature of the materials involved and t h e methods of t h e i r d i s p o s a l .
Only those areas designated to he cleared i n terms of 5.1 w i l l he measured f o r payment. The area of
surfaced roads', paved areas, railway format ions, and major s t r u ~ t u r e s f a l l i n g within such designated
a r e a s will normally he deducted from such measurements.
Where conservation of t o p s o i l without p r i o r c l e a r i n g is ordered. the removal of t o p s o i l from the
s p e c i f i e d area w i l l he measured as excavation and no payment w i l . 1 be made f o r c l e a r i n g and gruhhing.
